What real personalization looks like (and why templates fall short)

"Hi {first_name}, I noticed {company_name} is in the {industry} space" is mail merge from 2005. Every recipient recognizes it immediately because it references nothing specific about them.

The key constraint: the personalization must be specific enough that the prospect could not receive the same opening line from any other company. If they could, rewrite it.
