// Our Verdict

The code search graph provides the deepest multi-repo understanding, but enterprise-only pricing ($59/user/mo) limits accessibility.

Best for: Large engineering organisations with complex multi-repository architectures.

// Our Assessment

Sourcegraph Amp (formerly Cody) is what happens when the company that built code search for Uber, Databricks, and Plaid layers agentic AI on top of its code graph. The differentiator is multi-repository intelligence: Amp understands cross-repo dependencies, symbol relationships, and codebase topology at a depth no competitor matches. For organisations with hundreds of repos, this context advantage compounds with every query.

The business model has gone through turbulence. Free and Pro self-serve plans were killed in 2025, replaced by an ad-supported Amp Free tier (ads appear in the editor, Training Mode required) alongside Enterprise at $59/user/month. Enterprise Starter at $19/user/month gives teams of up to 50 a lighter on-ramp with search, chat, and prompt libraries.

The risk is strategy churn. In 18 months, Sourcegraph rebranded from Cody to Amp, killed self-serve, launched an ad tier, and shifted focus to agentic coding. Each pivot is defensible, but the accumulated change creates real uncertainty for enterprise buyers. For teams that need code graph intelligence across large polyglot codebases, nothing else comes close.

// Ideal For
+Large engineering organisations with hundreds of repositories that need cross-repo intelligence and dependency-aware AI
+Platform engineering teams that want code search and AI coding in a single tool for codebase exploration and migration
+Teams with polyglot codebases where understanding symbol relationships across languages is critical
// Not Ideal For
Enterprise buyers who prioritise vendor stability, three major strategic pivots in 18 months signals risk
Individual developers who want a straightforward paid plan, the self-serve model was discontinued
Teams uncomfortable with ad-supported tooling or Training Mode data sharing in the free tier
// Strengths
+Deepest multi-repo code understanding via semantic code graph
+RAG-based architecture with up to 1M tokens via Claude Sonnet 4
+Context governance features for enterprise code ownership
+Strong brand in code search / code intelligence space
// Weaknesses
Enterprise-only at $59/user/mo, not accessible to individuals
Brand confusion from Cody to Amp transition
Code generation quality trails top-tier agentic tools
Heavy enterprise sales process
