Spotify’s new feature allows you to create customized playlists with AI

Spotify has introduced a new feature for its Premium subscribers in the United Kingdom and Australia. 

This feature, the AI Playlist beta tool, enables users to craft customized playlists based on text descriptions. 

To access this functionality, users can navigate to the “Your Library” section on their mobile devices and select the option labeled “AI Playlist” after tapping the “+” icon located at the top-right corner of the screen.

Once inside the AI Playlist generator, users can input specific prompts or descriptions, such as “music for a rainy day,” to initiate the playlist creation process. 

The tool then utilizes advanced algorithms to curate a selection of 30 songs that align with the provided description. 

Users can refine their playlists further by adding supplementary prompts, such as “more sad music,” until they are satisfied with the compilation. 

Users can save their curated playlists upon completion by selecting the “create” option at the top right of the screen.

Initial feedback from users indicates that the AI Playlist beta tool has demonstrated an impressive capability to match songs to niche prompts accurately. 

For instance, when prompted to generate a playlist that evokes the ambiance of a vampire hunter from the film “Blade” (1998), the tool produced a curated selection of rave-appropriate techno music and even titled the playlist “Blade’s Essence” autonomously. 

Spotify advises users to utilize prompts encompassing genres, moods, artists, or decades to optimize the playlist generation process.

While the AI Playlist tool showcases promising functionality, it is not without its limitations. 

Notably, the tool is designed to generate playlists exclusively based on music-related prompts and does not provide results for non-music-related inquiries. 

Additionally, Spotify has implemented measures to prevent offensive prompts from generating playlists. 

Despite these constraints, users have embraced the tool as a convenient and efficient method for assembling playlists that cater to specific thematic preferences.

The AI Playlist beta tool marks Spotify’s latest endeavor to enhance user experience and bolster its position as a leading music streaming platform. 

This initiative follows the success of previous ventures, such as the AI-powered DJ feature, which sought to streamline playlist creation by leveraging machine learning algorithms. 

Spotify is continually refining its generative playlist capabilities, aiming to empower users with greater control and personalization over their music listening experience.

In light of these developments, industry analysts speculate that Spotify’s strategic investments in innovative features like the AI Playlist tool could influence the platform’s pricing structure. 

While Spotify currently offers Premium subscriptions starting at $5.99 per month for students and $10.99 for individuals, the introduction of premium features may prompt adjustments to subscription rates in the future. 

However, Spotify has yet to confirm any imminent price changes.

As the AI Playlist beta tool continues to roll out to users in the UK and Australia, Spotify remains committed to ongoing development and refinement. 

The company affirms its dedication to improving the user experience and expanding accessibility to innovative features across global markets.
