ChatGPT Sign up: 6 Steps to Get You Started FAST
Are you curious about AI and how it can help you daily? OpenAI’s ChatGPT is an AI tool that generates response from prompts. It’s responses are comparable to having a conversation with a human and getting an answer.
However before you can experience ChatGPT in this manner you will need to sign up to use ChatGPT. The ChatGPT sign up process is easy, and we’re here to show you how to complete it in 6 simple steps.
Before we get started, a prerequisite is that ChatGPT is available in your country. ChatGPT is not available in every country, and some email addresses or phone numbers will sometimes not be accepted.
Now that’s out of the way let’s explore how to get started with ChatGPT and make the most of this awesome AI tool.
The ChatGPT Sign up Process: getting Started
Getting started with ChatGPT is a piece of cake. Here’s how you do it:
1. Go to the OpenAI Website
On https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt you will find a “try ChatGPT” button there. Alternatively, you can go on https://chat.openai.com right away.
You should land on a page offering you to sign up or log in (see image)
2. Create your account
Click on the “Sign Up” button. You need to use your email address.
Make sure you use a legitimate address. We’ve seen cases of ChatGPT accounts being blocked or sign up being unavailable when users try to create an account with temporary email addresses.
Same for your phone number, use your personal mobile number. Verification won’t work for landlines or burner phone numbers.
If you have a Gmail address, you can insert it in the field or choose to sign in with Google directly, same for Microsoft or Apple accounts. Signing up this way means that ChatGPT will have access to your name and profile picture. After you’re done, click continue.
3. Password creation
After inserting your email address, you will be asked to create a password. Make sure it’s at least 8 characters, and for maximum safety, add numbers, capitals and special symbols.
After you’re done, click continue.
4. Check your emails
You will receive an email coming from “[email protected]” asking you to verify your email address. It looks like this:
Click on the green button and it will take you to OpenAI’s website in a new tab.
If you accidentally opened a different browser, or used a different device to confirm your email, you will see this message:
If you used the same browser and device, it will just say “Email verified”.
5. Fill your account information
You’ll be asked to fill in your first name, last name and birthday.
6. Add your phone number:
Now is the time to add your phone number. You will receive a code on it afterwards, so use your mobile phone number.
Click on “send code”. You will receive a text shortly afterwards, saying “Your OpenAI verification code is “xxxxxx”, insert it in the text box.
Once you see a screen saying “ChatGPT, this is a free research preview”, congrats, you’re in!
Is ChatGPT Free?
ChatGPT 3.5 is free to use, and ChatGPT 4 is available when you subscribe to ChatGPT Plus. ChatGPT 3.5 is basically a free research preview of everything that is possible with GPT 4.
